A great effort to get the game on.

Sowerby produced another good display to beat Booth. Thanks must go to Lee Barber, Patrick Lennon, Alex Healey and a few others for getting the ground anywhere near playable, they started removing covers and buckets of water at 7am and were still making final preparations at 1pm.
Sowerby's skipper Gavin Clarke won the toss and had no hesitation in sticking the opposition into bat. Booth started cautiously on a slow low wicket and not helped by a wet outfield were restricted to 134-7 from their 45 overs. Mark Johnstone (25) and Fraser Ambrose (47) put on 50 for the first wicket, Andrew Sutcliffe (20) and Jonny Cockroft (16) the only others managing to get into double figures. Mohammed Younas bowled very well (17-3-32-3) and in tandem with Craig Patrick (16-1-61-4), they took all of the Booth wickets to fall. If it wasn't for 3 dropped chances Sowerby could have been chasing a lower score.
In reply Sowerby lost Mohammed Younas (1) early, but Mark Bennett again batting well for 30 before being bowled, both wickets falling to Mohammed Nazam. Sowerby with John Brown and Gavin Clarke started to look comfortable. However Clarke (23) got a leading edge trying to flick one around the corner and was caught bringing Lee Barber to the crease. Barber again looked comfortable until walking out of his crease to Andrew Sutcliffe and was stumped for 18. This sparked a collapse for Sowerby, with Billy Watson (2), Lynden Baxter Jnr (0) not getting to grips with the wicket and Paul Bellinger (1) and Craig Patrick (4) on the wrong side of some dubious LBW calls. This brought Patrick Lennon to the crease at number 10 to bat with Brown and 6 runs still needed for victory. They held their nerve to hold on for the win with Brown unbeaten on 44 and lennon being 3 not out. Mohammed Nazam bowled impressively with 5-34 of 15 good overs. Andrew Sutcliffe ended with 2 wickets and the last one falling to Hashim Wajid.
After the game Sowerby were relieved to come away with victory and know with those dropped catches taken it could have been a lot easier than it was. With 22 points from a possible 24 and lying second in the table it has been one of the best starts by a Sowerby St Peters second team in quite a few years, however they know there are tougher challenges to come. Next week sees promoted side Upper Hopton visit Sowerby, who will be looking to add to their great start.
