Upper Hopton were the visitors to Sowerby on a glorious Sataurday afternoon. Home skipper Gavin Clarke winning the toss and batting. M Younas and M Bennett came out to the middle to open the innings, J Stanger and O Boyes opening the bowling for Upper Hopton. In the second over after hitting a 4 Bennett was caught behind driving at a ball from Boyes. J Brown came to the crease and with Younas they accumulated runs steadily until some loose bowling from Nichols allowed Brown to hit 3 sixes in one over to pick up the scoring rate. A few overs late and just before drinks Brown brought up his 50 with pull shot after the bowler dropped short. However straight after drinks and a change of ends from Stanger Brown was bowld leaving the score at 71-2 just into the 16th over. G Clarke came out to bat and with Younas picking up his scoring rate Sowerby were starting to pick up the runs much quicker. Younas and Clarke both brought up their 50s, but Clarke was out soon afterwards for 53. Younas then run himself out for 74 and Sowerby at this point were 203-4 with 7 overs left and the big hitters coming in. Barber hit a quick 15 and Watson and Baxter made a quick 25 and 33 respectively, both not out, leaving St Peters 275-5 after their 45 overs.
After tea, Upper Hopton started just like Sowerby, cautiously at first and picked it up towards the end, but realistically were never looking likely to knock the score off. latif was the first out for 11 bowled by Lennon. Lennon also had a hand in the second wicket catching Wood in extra cover off the bowling of Barber. Turton at the other end was going along nicely and had just passed 50 and was starting to accelerate, but everyone who batted with him after this just seemed to shut up shop. Although bowling tightly the wickets were not falling as Sowerby hoped so Clarke turned back to opener Lennon. This proved a good decision as he bowled Turton for a well made 70. Gallagher made 8 before dancing down the track and completely missing the ball to be bowled by Younas. Moorhouse then called his partner through for a single then stopped, leaving Martin stranded at the strikers end, run out for 2. Moorhouse was then bowld by Lennon for 4 after blocking 3-4 overs out. After not looking interested in going for the win number 7 H Reddy came out and blasted 3 fours and 3 sixes to hit 60 not out. Wickets continued to fall at the other side but not enough for Sowerby to get maximum points. Upper Hopton finished on 196 for 8 after their 45. Lennon bowled well with 4-34 off 14, with Barber, Bellinger and Younas taking a wicket a piece.
