Sowerby St Peters progressed to the 2nd round of the Parish Cup with a great performance against division higher Shelf Northowram Hedge Top.
On a tricky wicket Northowram bowled tightly but opener Ben Watkins held the innings together with a very well constructed 67 and had able support from Hayden Bruce (32), Lyndon Baxter (18) and Martin Schofield (16). This helped Sowerby post a total of 199 all out with Raz Saghir the pick of the Northowram bowlers with 4/60.
In reply Northowram started positively but when skipper Dan Cole (32) was the first victim of pace bowler Patrick Lennon (4/17) with the score on 48 this sparked a sensational collapse. The introduction of 15 year old leg spinner Harry Clarke proved to be the real game changing moment. Bowling superbly throughout, he outwitted his opponents as he picked up his maiden 5 wicket haul finishing with figures of 7.4 overs 2 Maidens 17 runs for 5 wickets.
