Sowerby were put into bat and lost three quick wickets to left arm bowler Gledhill. After this Adam Clarke and Gavin Hayes batted patiently both getting 50 before both were out to spin bowler Crossley. Ben Hoyle upped the run rate with a quick 32 and John Brown (43) and Lynden Baxter jnr (28) pushed the total on towards 250. They ended on 253-9 after their 45 overs, a decent score after being 8-3 at one point.
Gledhill and Hall opened for Southowram, Gledhill bashing his way to 43 before being first change bowler Ben Watkins first wicket. He also removed danger man Crossley a few overs later before finishing his 9 overs with 2-47. Wickets fell at regular intervals during the Southowram innings with Brown (2-29), Matthew Hoyle (1-25) and Gareth Grogan claiming 4-26. Sowerby couldn't get the last wicket but the tie was over as a contest and Sowerby had won by 79 runs after the Southowram innings ended on 174-9.
Despite the win Sowerby will have to improve their fielding if they are to progress into the final of the competition, on another day their seven dropped chances could have cost them. Draw for the semi finals will be made on Tuesday 19th June at Blackley CC.
